Test Anxiety
Test anxiety is experienced by many college students. Almost every student who takes a test feels some anxiety, but some students may be overwhelmed by it. The best way to manage test anxiety is to be prepared and study diligently for your tests.
Below are some tips to help you overcome test anxiety.
Be Prepared
- Review your notes daily. Clarify material you don’t understand with your instructor, study group, or tutor
- Ask your instructor what material will be covered on the test
- Ask what the format of the test will be (essay, multiple choice, true/false, etc.)
- Ask your instructor if they make previous tests available. The more you know about what to expect on
a test, the more prepared you will be and the less anxious you will feel.
Stress Management
- Come to the test early with all your necessary materials and take some time to relax
- Wear comfortable clothing
- Get a good night sleep
- Focus on your test, not on what your classmates are doing/when they finish
- Don’t study/cram last minute
Test Accommodations
- If you receive accommodations for tests, remember to contact Disability Services to schedule your test
