Iowa Western scholars who have completed 6+ credit hours toward a certificate program or 12+ credit hours toward a degree program and earned a GPA of 3.50 or higher are invited to become members of Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of the Two-Year College.

The society invites eligible students once every Fall, Spring, and Summer. New members are able to participate in the formal Induction Ceremony that happens once per semester, receiving recognition and being celebrated by family, friends, faculty, staff, and administrators. Phi Theta Kappa scholars are also recognized at graduation by wearing official PTK honor stoles and tassels, along with a PTK seal on their diplomas.

There are also many scholarship opportunities for members--over $90 million dollars available--including private scholarships and transfer scholarships to four-year institutions nationwide. In addition to being outstanding scholars, members of PTK can also serve as role models at school and in the community through involvement in service and college projects.

Along with Scholarship and Service, Phi Theta Kappa offers Leadership and Fellowship opportunities through the selection of Chapter, Regional, and International Officer roles. The students in these positions are elected by their fellow members and represent the college at local, regional, and international events.
